Interview: Andrew Kyne of Grayscale

Grayscale are a pop-punk band Philadelphia, PA. With a growing buzz around the release of their upcoming album, What We’re Missing, the band are sure to have a busy year ahead of them, and Legendary Kids Press was able to catch-up with guitarist Andrew Kyne about the release.
How would you describe the band to those who have never listened to your music before?
We are a blend of raw emotion, mixed in with your favourite alternative bands and topped off with a hint of pop-punk.
How did you guys come together?
Collin [Walsh, vocals], Dallas [Molster, guitar] and Nick [Veno, Drums] played in a band together in high school. Derek [Parker, bass] played in a local metal band and [I] played guitar in [my] room a lot. Eventually, Collin and Nick decided to start a new band after the other ended. They had heard about [myself] and Derek through another local band and invited [us] out. Dallas hopped on board a little later. We all clicked and the rest is history.
There are loads of pop-punk bands in today’s scene. What would you say makes you stand out from the crowd?
We’re doing our best to not be labelled as strictly “pop-punk” or “alternative”. We want to make the music that we feel is the best representation of ourselves and not something that’s restricted by labels and genres.
You’ll be releasing your new album, What We’re Missing, on February 12. What can fans expect from the release?
A raw, more mature Grayscale. The new album is a big step toward the Grayscale that we as a band would like to be.
How would you say it differs from 2015′s Change EP?
What We’re Missing is a continuation of the Change EP. We wouldn’t say that it differs, but rather that it continues to emphasize where we want to head as band.
You signed to Anchor Eighty Four Records last year. How would you say the label has helped in the band’s growth?
Anchor Eighty Four has been so helpful with getting together merch, shows, music releases and really all things Grayscale this past year. We owe those guys a lot and are so thankful they took us on board.
Will you be touring in promotion of the album?
That is the plan. We are currently getting together a bunch of shows and working on a possible spring/summer tour.
Aside from the album release, what do you see 2016 bringing for Grayscale?
We’re hoping that 2016 will bring us more touring, bigger shows and a bunch of new fans that we can connect with.
Any last words?
Go Flyers.
