Concert Review: Glass Animals at Riverside Theater

If you’ve ever listened to music by Glass Animals, you could probably guess the type of concert experience you’d have at one of their shows. On June 3rd in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I attended their concert at the Riverside Theater, the perfect seated/general admission venues for this particular show. Although my reason for being there wasn’t the greatest - procrastinating studying for exams - I couldn’t have been happier with my decision to attend one of the most unique concerts I’ve been to.
Shortly after the opener got off stage (no one sitting by me seemed to know their name. Later, I figured out it was Gilligan Moss), Glass Animals took the stage and blew away the crowd not only with their music, but with their set as well. Complete with fog and rather trippy lighting, it served as the perfect accompaniment to the music.
Opening with their popular track “Black Mambo”, the band began wowing the audience the second they walked on stage. Although the acoustics of the venue created an odd echo at times, the Glass Animals overall put on an enjoyable show with tracks like “Gooey”, “Walla Walla”, “Cocoa Hooves” and my personal favourites “Hazey” and their cover of Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown”.
Overall, the Glass Animals experience was a memorable and enjoyable one. The thought of buying merch usually doesn’t even cross my mind, but the overpriced “peanut butter vibes” was tempting to even me, despite my attempted self-control. The combination of the music, set and venue made for a very distinct atmosphere and noteworthy concert.
