LKP’s One to Watch: Landmarks

Landmarks are a pop-punk band from Manchester, UK. Since their formation in 2011, the band have been making great strides in their local scene and are hoping that the release of their upcoming EP, Fighting Gravity, will allow them to reach a wider audience.
Landmarks is made up of vocalist and guitarist Brad Shea, guitarist James McCormick, bassist Adam Long and drummer Tom Cordner. Having gone through some slight line-up changes (Shea moved to vocals after the departure of original vocalist Liam Kennedy), the band are looking to continue their fast growth in the pop-punk scene.
Even though they came together in 2011, it took the band two years to offer listeners an EP, focusing instead on their live shows and bringing their sound to audiences across the United Kingdom. To date, they’ve played shows with the likes of Neck Deep, Light You Up, Decade and Hot Damn, and are without a doubt destined to play alongside pop-punk staples like New Found Glory and The Story So Far. The energy that’s present in their recordings translates tenfold into their live performance, and they are, without a doubt, a band everyone needs to see live.
In 2013, Landmarks released their debut EP, Running on Empty. An energetic release, it was a strong debut filled with honed skills and passionate musicianship. Tracks like “Better Men Have Tried and Failed” and “Reverse” featured chugging guitars and powerful vocals, while closing track “Growing Pains” brought about a sound that was reminiscent of an early Blink-182 or even Sum 41 with its running instrumentation. Running on Empty introduced music fans to Landmarks and allowed for the band to continue their rise through the pop-punk scene.
This past April, Landmarks premiered “40mg”, the lead single off their aforementioned Fighting Gravity EP and their first after the departure of Kennedy. Showcasing a growth both musically and lyrically, the track tackles the topic of anxiety and does so in a way that’s effective and mature. Instrumentally, the song is refreshing, taking what one would expect from a pop-punk track and reworking it in a way that allows for it to break away from the pack, and is a good example of what fans can expect from Fighting Gravity.
So be sure to check out Landmarks. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Neck Deep and Light You Up, the band are showing that Britain’s pop-punk scene is alive and thriving. You can find their music on iTunes, and be sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter. They’re going to blow-up this year, and you’ll definitely want to keep them on your radar.
Fighting Gravity is available worldwide May 15th via Ship Records. You can pre-order the EP through the label’s merch store.
