Review: Sleeping With Sirens - The Strays (Single)

image

“The Strays” is the newest song from rock five-piece Sleeping With Sirens. Set to be featured on the band’s forthcoming album Madness, the track continues the direction heard on previously released “Kick Me” and “Go Go Go”.

“The Strays” begins with light acoustic guitar and a soft melody, later transforming into solid alternative rock, with the addition of drums bringing about an overall cohesiveness. Far from the sound featured on “If You Can’t Hang” and “If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn”, the track can, at times, be compared to the acoustic “Don’t You Ever Forget About Me” and Feel’s “Satellites”.

It’s catchy and well though out, and offers listeners a sample of what Madness will sound like. While recording the song (and, most likely, the entire album) can be viewed as risky, as there’s always the chance older fans will be disappointed, Sleeping With Sirens’ new style appears to have paid off and will surely appeal to fans both old and new. While some may refer to the band as “sellouts” for leaving their heavier sound behind, it should be noted that bands will often develop their sound as they grow and Sleeping With Sirens have done so in a way that’s kept their integrity in check.

Overall, “The Strays” is a song that has made an impression on many, and has become one of my personal favourites. If it’s any indication of Madness’ impending sound, then it can be certain the album will be a good one.
