INTERVIEW: Jilly Anais

image
Jilly Anais is an urban pop artist currently looking to take over the pop and R&B worlds with her unique take on the genres. At only 18, she’s released her debut single, “The Juice”, to rave reviews and is currently looking to release an EP later this month. With budding potential and a drive to take her wherever she wishes, Jilly is destined to go far and I was recently able to speak to her about her music and her hopes for the future.

How would you describe your music to those who have never given it a listen?
I would describe my music as edgy and fresh; I have a different sound that sets me apart, a sound that I’m excited to show the world!

Who were your musical influences growing up?
Growing up, and still [to] this day, my musical influences are Beyoncé, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.

What is it about pop/R&B that made you want to take your music in that specific direction?
Pop/R&B has always been my style. It’s what expresses me the most, which is why I’m taking my music in that direction.

You recently released your debut single, “The Juice”. Where did the inspiration for the track arise?
The inspiration for the track came one day [while] I was in the studio having a conversation with one of my choreographers. I asked him, “What’s the Juice?” [and] he replied with, “The Juice? What do you mean by that?”

“What’s the juice? Like, what’s the gossip… the scoop?” I said, and before we know it, we were writing an entire song based off what [I’d] said. The basic meaning of [the] single is gossip. People love [it], so why not give them something to talk about.

You’re set to release your forthcoming EP later this month. What can fans expect?
An entirely new sound! I can’t wait to share my new music!

Is there anyone (producer, musician) you’d like to collaborate with in the future?
I would love to collaborate with Timbaland and Missy Elliott in the future. They are two extremely talented individuals whose sounds and ideas are always unique.

Social media is a major tool for up-and-coming artists. How would you say it’s helped your growth?
Social media has helped spread my music in more ways than I could imagine. People from different countries have listened to my songs and watched my videos - all by just following me on Instagram or Twitter - which is so cool to me! As an independent up-and-coming artist, social media has been my biggest advantage.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I will be 23-years-old. I see myself touring all around the country and other countries, sharing my passion for music and entertainment with others.

Any last words?
Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter (@JillyAnais). Xoxo, God Bless; thank you.

You can find “The Juice” on SoundCloud.
