Review: Out of Order - Better Days

image
Better Days is the second full-length from Montreal-based punk band Out of Order. Filled to the brim with eleven hard-hitting punk rock tracks, the album is an improvement on the band’s last release and shows they’re on their way to becoming punk staples.

Starting with the hard-hitting “Dog Bite”, listeners are immediately introduced to a sound that’s raw and energetic. Vocalist Scott Maracle’s angry and raspy vocals give the track a unique and standout sound, and the instrumentation throughout is loud and quick-paced, matching Maracle’s intensity note through note. As the album progresses, it is quickly seen that the drumming is the real show stealer, taking the reigns and making Better Days differ from the genre’s usual offerings.

The energy heard in “Dog Bite” continues throughout the album’s length, and even manages to grow with songs like “Keeping Score” and “Riot”. Only Better Day’s title track shows any sign of momentum dying down, but even then, it’s only mild. “No Way Out” closes the record out just as strongly as “Dog Bite” introduced it, treating the listener to wailing guitars, screaming vocals and hard-hitting drums.

Overall, Better Days is a well-rounded release. Bringing about the better parts of punk music and incorporating old-school rock and new school pop-punk, Out of Order have managed to create a record that’ll gain them their widest reception yet. It’s a must-have album for music fans and one that’ll open a lot of doors for the Canadian four-piece.
