Legendary Kids Press Counts Down - Top 10 Music Videos of 2014

10. Black Veil Brides - Goodbye Agony
Beginning our countdown are rockers Black Veil Brides. The band are known for their intricate music videos and the one for “Goodbye Agony” is no exception. There are many throwback moments in it (eg. an appearance by the boy from 2010’s “Knives and Pens” video) and, overall, it gives the feeling that the band are burying the past behind them and ready to grasp onto what the future holds. Whether you like BVB or not, you have to admit the guys have some real talent and I’m excited to see what 2015 has in store for them.
9. The Amity Affliction - Pittsburgh
The Amity Affliction are known for teaming up with directors who like thinking outside the box when it comes to music videos, and they didn’t deviate with “Pittsburgh”. The song itself deals with vocalist Joel Birch’s near-death experience while on Warped Tour 2013 and the video shows the band drowning in water while performing the song, bringing to life Birch’s feelings regarding the event perfectly.
8. Blitz Kids - Perfect
Blitz Kids became one of my favourite bands during 2014 and this video is a prime example as to why. Not only is “Perfect” one of my all-time favourite songs, the video is creative and the editing is superb! It mixes the band’s sense of humour with the song’s lyrical content in a way that is flawless and is, in my opinion a must-see. My favourite moment? Guitarist Jono Yates’ duck face selfie, of course!
7. Mallory Knox - When Are We Waking Up?
“Dreamy” is definitely the best way to describe this video and no, I’m not just saying that because of the song’s title. It features the cutest little boy (who, presumably, is supposed to represent a younger version of vocalist Mikey Chapman), and, without giving too much away, is one of the year’s coolest music videos.
6. Set It Off - Why Worry
Filmed in a church, fitting the track’s gospel vibe, “Why Worry” is definitely one of 2014’s biggest jams. Frontman Cody Carson is always captivating to watch and ensures your eyes stay on him the entire length of the video. The representation of negative and positive thoughts is done very well and, I’m not gonna lie, more people would probably attend church if mass were more like the guys make it out to be. (Am I allowed to say that?)
5. The Ready Set - Higher
Not only is “Higher” an absolute jam (seriously, I love it so much that I want lyrics from the song tattooed on my back), but the song’s video is one massive PSA - honestly, how often can you say you’re actually learning something while watching a music video?! Apart from the creepy, nude mannequins and Jordan Witzigreuter eating nails, the video’s hilarious and rightfully deserves a spot on our list.
4. LIGHTS - Up We Go
LIGHTS is known for her creative take on music videos - I mean, she is an artist after all - and the one for “Up We Go” is no exception. Done in one take, similar to 2009’s “Second Go” video, we see the lovely songstress performing in an elevator while the most random of high jinks occur in the background - pretty rad, if you ask me.
3. PVRIS - My House
2014’s breakout band PVRIS released an absolutely killer album this past November and I haven’t stopped listening to it since. The music video for the record’s second single, “My House”, is definitely one of my favourites, with awesome effects, the band performing underwater and a pretty realistic ghost (which could possibly be vocalist Lynn Gunn under a bed sheet, we’re not too sure - you be the judge).
2. Fall Out Boy - Centuries
Essentially the band’s version of David and Goliath, the music video for “Centuries” is pretty intense. That being said, Fall Out Boy have never been a band to follow convention, so in a time when music videos are becoming a dying art, it’s nice to see these guys keeping it interesting.
1. Bring Me The Horizon - Drown
The internet freaked out when “Drown” was released and honestly, can you blame everyone? Firstly, the song is amazing (stay tuned for our “Top 10 Songs” list - you just might see it make an appearance), but the video is amazing! Run down: drummer Matt Nicholls turns into a werewolf, attacks keyboardist Jordan Fish and is forced to undergo an exorcism.
