LKP’s One to Watch: Mary English

Mary English began acting on her love of performing at the age of three. Beginning her career as a ballet dancer, she eventually turned her attention to acting, where she would perform in junior theatre. Both activities got her comfortable in front of a crowd and allowed her to showcase her talents to an audience outside her family. While dancing and acting, she began noticing a passion for singing and it just so happened she had a voice to match. Within a few years, English was hitting the studio to create her own brand of pop music.
English’s debut single, “Make This Last”, was released to the public in March 2013. Featuring pop-rock melodies and teen-esque lyrics, it was a perfect debut for the young star. The single’s follow up, “At It Again”, continued on with the teen-pop vibe and it wasn’t long until music lovers began to take notice of her, and that included former Hey Monday drummer Elliot James.
Upon meeting, James saw the potential English had to make it far in the industry. Signing on to help her produce the next items in her catalogue, he helped steer her in a new direction, which was seen on the first major single, “Like A Dream”. Released in October 2013, “Like A Dream” featured a dreamy vibe and removed the pop-rock sentiments that had been present in English’s previous releases. The melodies, lyrics and pop-sensibilities caught the attention on many big names and it wasn’t long until MTV sent out an offer to feature the young star’s future releases.
The singles to follow “Like A Dream” continued on the electro-pop spectrum. Focusing on infectious beats and relatable lyrics, English was honing in on her target demographic, which she definitely reached it with her latest track “Don’t Wanna Say”. The song is the ultimate teenage girl anthem and the accompanying video showcases something a lot of girls her age witness: a crush texting their best friend. The track’s pop sound and relatability are sure to gain it some buzz and it’s a definite that it’ll be on the playlist of teenagers everywhere within a few months.
So make sure to check out Mary English. The young pop star is steadily making a name for herself with her infectious beats and powerful voice. She’s destined for stardom and it won’t be long until the entire nation knows her name. We at Legendary Kids Press are excited to see what the future holds for English and we hope you are as well!
